I know you like gaming peripheral pr0n. Ryan Block got this started over at Engadget yesterday, but I figured I’d throw some more snaps into the mix. Granted, my shots are not the same high res shots you’ll see over there, but hey, who is counting? Nor are some of them as clearly focused, but maybe by suffering through them you’ll all want to pitch in and get me a new digital camera with a macro mode that isn’t shit.
I like this little controller. For $20, you couldn’t ask for a better build quality. It has buttons for days, more than enough to accommodate any future VC or other Wii game releases. One feature that stands out for me, in particular, are the shoulder buttons. While they look like your standard SNES buttons, one touch and you’ll realize they take on a very Gamecube feel, as in, they are analog down to a certain point with a satisfying click at the end. Looking at this thing feature-for-feature, you are essentially getting a PS3 controller sans SIXAXIS or an Xbox 360 controller sans rumble for much cheaper (sort of, you still need to plug this into a Wii Remote, but you already have one of those, right?).
Yep, there it is, just waiting for you to play. Seductive, even.
There has been talk that the clips on the back will eventually hold the Wii Remote. I taped my own together in both possible configurations and have come to the conclusion that both are equally awkward. The second one, which will most likely be the chosen one as it is slightly more ergonomic, would at least allow the controller to utilize the Wii Remote’s pointer. But still, it feels funny at first. Hell, so did the Wii Remote, though, so we’ll have to wait and see.
I figured I’d taken Ryan’s pic one step further. It is nice to force the Classic controller to stand around with all the controllers that are losing their jobs to the Wii.
All in all, a 20 bucks well spent. I think.
